I went to a Civil War reenactment today. This was my first time "In the ranks" with this unit. I used to be very involved with both Revolutionary War and Civil War reenactment, but kids and life led me to take a hiatus. I had always been involved with cavalry units, as I had a horse back when I lived in Connecticut.

This was my first experience standing shoulder to shoulder in the ranks of the infantry during a reenactment. It was also interesting, in that the way the events are held today are much different that how they were when I was previously involved.

We lined up at 9:00 am for inspection and drill with our batallion. The 3 federal battalions took turns doing this so the public would have something to watch. This lasted around an hour and a half, after which we were dismissed until 12:30.

At 12:30 we fell back in for the battle. In the past the battles would be staged in an open field for the public. At this event the Rebels went off from their camp into the woods at around 12:30, while we were doing our inspections and "Marching up and down the field with the Sgt, Major". At 1:00 our cavalry went off into the woods and to look for the Southern troops. We "fought" in the woods, fields and swamps just for our own enjoyment for an hour and a half. At 2:30 we "Pushed" the Rebel toops into the field where the spectators were and had a 1 hour "battle" there, that was strictly scripted for the ejoyment of the visitors.

I will be back for another round tomorrow. I hear the Rebels are to win on Sunday. Unless more of them show up, I don't see how they will make it look anywhere near realistic. We have around 400 Federal troops, and there were only 150 Secesh MAX.

Good and Bad

We had a great weekend at our house.

David slept over a friends on Friday night so Gina and I got to go on a "Dinner date". We went to a little Italian place just up the road and had a great dinner. (Except for the part where I got pissed that she was eating my appitiser).

The weather was beautiful. I cooked on the grill Saturday evening, yum. We went to Lowes and Home Depot to plan some improvements to our patio / garden.

Sunday we went out to dinner with some friends of ours and had a great time (Dave came along this time, but behaved like a gentleman!). Sunday evening Dave and I took a walk to Rita's for a water Ice. If you are not from the Philly area, and don't know what a water ice is, feel free to message me!

A rare wonderful weekend.

Today...The bad.

I couldn't get David out of bed this morning. Therefore, he missed a dress rehersal for his school band concert.

Gina was running late this morning. She ended up getting to work 10 min. late, only to find out that the salesman she was scheduled to work with today quit on Friday! No one bothered to call and let her know that she didn't need to go in today.

After Gina got home, she went to get on her computer only to find the "Blue Screen of Death". Her hard drive is TOAST. So now I've been online with Dell trying to get a replacement.

OH BOTHER!

Amazing how the Coven of Templar Knights has 21 Members and 6 are Blinded? That’s 28.5% of the Coven Currently Blinded! Wow I Wonder Why? Could it be that NcBandit is an Unworthy Arrogant Piece of Shit Prick? Yes that’s it LOL!!!! I was Traded to that Prick and told to give him the Favors that I Cost for him to Purchased me in Addition to the 250 that I Initially got for him when I first went into his Coven! So he was getting over on me a Free 250 Favors! Now he wont Release me Still but wants to let his Greed Consume himself and Try to Trade me for more Favors!

Also Amazing how his wife joins coven after everyone else, and at a lvl 6 at that with No Favors to her Name and gets his Mark? And is now Assistant Coven Master? And they Blind me cause I Only Stated the Obvious of his Favoritism!!!

So Basically NcBandit is Dirty Mother Fucking Prick Asshole!!!

These are my Words and my Words Alone, and I Speak Alone on this One!!

I can see getting upset,,,,but this is way over the edge!

Italian Colleagues

Last November I, along with 3 others from my workplace, visited the facility of a company which is also owned by our parent company. Two of the gentlemen we met while over in Italy came to visit our facility this week. I spent all of Monday as well as the better part of today with them.

We took them out to dinner last night. They wanted to go "Somewhere American". We had quite a discussion on where to take them, until I remembered a Micro-Brew-Pub / staekhouse near their hotel. We were to meet there at 6:00PM. They showed up at 6:45, as they got lost. They had to stop at a gas station and ask "For the place that makes the beer".

We had a great dinner, and one of our visitors was adventurous and tried several different styles of beer. He had never had a highly hopped IPA before. He kept sipping it and saying "This has a very particular flavor". I tried to explain to him the 4 different types of hops they use there to get that "particular" flavor, but I don't think he understood.

VNV Nation

Friday night we went to see VNV Nation along with And One at the Trocadero in Philadelphia.

An amazing evening. And one played a great set and were very energetic on stage. Of couse the high points of their set were Military Fashion Show and Panzer Mensch.

VNV were awesome. They were very excited that they had sold out the Troc and were very pumped up! They had the crowd really up and into the show. They experienced some problems with the video displays and light systems but if Ronan hadn't appologized for it I doubt anyone would have noticed. They played for over an hour and then played 3 encours.

After the concert an "After Party" was held at Shampoo nightclub. This was organized as a benefit for Frank Miller, who played keyboards with VNV on their last tour. He is from Philly and is experiencing medical problems. The proceeds from the After Party went towards his medical bills. We had an incredible time at the party. We got to meeth Ronan and Mark from VNV and the guys from And One.

We briefly ran into our House Sister Ankhenanset

outside the troc, but sadly never saw her at the after party.

It was an amazing evening and VNV's performance as well as meeting Ronan and Mark have gotten us very excited about the Goth cruise in October.

Cats!

04:43 Apr 07 2007
Times Read: 750

As I said in my last entry our little Sassafrass passed away last week. My son was really torn up about it as she had 'adopted' him as her boy.

A friend of Gina's is involved with the cat rescue group we got our kitten from. They are 'foster parents' to abandoned cats until an adoptive home is found. Well, they live in an apartment and had 10 foster cats as well as 3 of their own! The managment (which allows only 3 cats) found out and told them either 10 cats go, or they go.

They got other foster families to take 7 of the foster cats, but 3 have such issues that they can't 'farm out'. So, they looked for some folks to take their 3 cats until they either get the troubled cats homes, or move.

Gina, of course, stepped up to the plate and we are long-term cat sitting a 10 year old BIG cat named Tigger. Tigger had never been exposed to a dog before so there will be a big adjustment curve between him and Ewok the Shih Tzu!

Sadness

Last week DAG took our two cats to the vet (who is our good friend). Neena, the little black kitten, had to go for innoculations, and Sassafrass, our 14? y.o. Himalayan neede a check up and had not been eating well. Both were given a clean bill of health.

Sometime today Sassafrass passed away. DAG found her on the floor in the bathroom when she came home.

Sassy had 'adopted' our 13 y.o. son and he is devastated. Even Neena and our Shih Tzu Ewok seem withdrawn and saddned.

School of the Soldier

00:45 Apr 01 2007
Times Read: 703

My civil war reenactment group held a "School of the Soldier" today. Members from my unit (71st PA Volunteer Infantry), the 69th PVI and the 103rd PVI attended.

We started the day rotating through 4 different classes by platoons. We had a class on Safety, one on manual of arms, one on marching and one on fireing techniques.

After the 4 rounds of classes we broke for lunch which was prepared by the civilian ladies of the combined groups. We had a stew with potatoes, corn, green beans and sausage, corn bread, salad, cheese and bread and pie!

After lunch we had a competition between the 4 platoons to test not only the abilities of the men at arms, but also the platoon NCO's ability to remember specific order to give and how to march the group out of various situations.

Finally was all formed as a single company and practiced massed fireing, by ranks, by files , by platoons and at will, demonstrating the the officers the different ways to maintain fire on an opposing force un order to gain maximum advantage in different situations.

It was a very good day, but it's been a long time since I spent a whole day marching, drilling and shooting. I feel like I got hit by a truck.
